UWL CPD Session 1:  UWL Flex Training Reading time: 3 minutes

Introduction:

This session is designed to provide a refresher on the UWL Flex model of learning and teaching. Academic staff, HPLs, and PhD students involved in teaching, are trained on or reminded of UWL Flex and its 3-main components, shown an exemplar of UWL Flex, and shown how to develop content following UWL Flex. I also introduce them to UWL's Blackboard Baseline template, show them where to find guidance and support on UWL Flex and frequently asked learning technology questions , and more.

The following is a detailed description of what we discuss in this training.

  • UWL FLEX:
    I go over what UWL Flex is and why we use it. I explain in detail the 3-components of UWL Flex, investigate , apply , and consolidate , and I give examples of why they should create their content on Blackboard, to ensure they follow this model as is required. I then show them examples of content from previous modules that follows the UWL Flex approach. This ensures they can see and relate with the content, and also realise how they can do the same thing when it is their time to develop content for students.
  • UWL FLEX'S EXEMPLAR:
    I cover what the exemplar for UWL Flex is. This is a self-enrol example module developed as guidance for staff on how to develop their weekly learning content by following UWL Flex. The exemplar is designed to showcase examples of content developed using UWL Flex from the perspectives of different modules and courses. This is provide the lecturers with clear examples and guidance that they can relate to.
  • UWL'S BLACKBOARD BASELINE MODULE TEMPLATE:
    For this part, I go over what the baseline template is. I discuss in detail each of the sections that make up the baseline template, the type of content they are meant to contain, and how staff can populate these sections to make it easier for their students to find the relevant content.
  • WHERE TO FIND GUIDANCE AND SUPPORT:
    I cover where staff can find guidance and support, not only on UWL Flex model , but also learning technologies related inquiries , general inquiries, and more. I provide them all links to the guidance and support pages we have developed so they have these for their reference.
